How Curitiba got smart

Curitiba's reputation as a transit pioneer predates any of this — its bus rapid transit network and contactless fare cards go back to the 1970s and 2002. What changed from 2012 was that the transit operator URBS began wiring the fleet itself, streaming routes, speeds and stop times from roughly 2,500 buses into a central control room via 3G telemetry.
