Ayacucho Tram & Metrocable Feeder Lines

Medellín's Ayacucho Tram, a 4.3km rubber-tyred Translohr line on overhead catenary, began commercial service 31 March 2016, linking Metro's San Antonio hub to nine stops across comunas 8 and 9. Two later aerial cable-car feeders, Metrocable Line H (2016) and Line M (2019), connect at its Oriente and Miraflores ends, sharing the Metro's integrated fare card.

📊 Impact

Metro de Medellín reported 60.8 million cumulative rides and 92,705 tonnes of avoided CO2 emissions in the tram's first five years, 2016-2021 (operator, 2021 anniversary report).

The tram's real payoff arrived after the fact: two aerial cable lines built years later turned a single corridor into a hillside-to-downtown network, not the tram alone.
