ewz Smart Meter Rollout on the City Fibre Network

Zurich's municipal utility ewz began mass-installing smart electricity meters in August 2024, replacing roughly 300,000 meters by 2029 — 240,000 by end-2027 under Swiss federal rules. Meters record quarter-hourly and report once daily over ewz's own fibre network, which also carries the city's smart water and gas meters. Data is pseudonymised; the meters carry no remote disconnect switch.
