+CityxChange

Trondheim co-led an EU Horizon 2020 lighthouse consortium (with Limerick) to build Positive Energy Blocks — clusters of buildings that generate more energy over a year than they consume — and a local marketplace to trade the surplus and flexibility between them.

📊 Impact

Two Positive Energy Blocks were established at Brattora and Sluppen, spanning about 71,000 m2 of commercial buildings with roughly 4 GWh of local rooftop-PV and heat-pump generation. Both reached a net-positive annual balance: Brattora +230,857 kWh/yr (10% of its demand) and Sluppen +224,880 kWh/yr (5.2%). Aneos local energy and flexibility market linked 16 buildings and 29 assets and cut local peak load by about 6% (all figures consortium/operator-reported; no independent evaluation).
