Approval release: "On Friday, December 9, 2016, the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) approved a loan of EUR 31.4 million and a grant of EUR 12.5 million to the Republic of Niger to finance the national component of the project of the Trans-Saharan fiber-optic backbone (DTS)", and "By 2020, at the completion of the project, the penetration rate of internet services should have doubled, from 15% to 30%". Its 1,510 km figure covers the Niger-Chad build together, a wider scope than the 1,031 km later reported for Niger.
