SolarGen's own project page is headed "Kismayo Solar Mini-Grid" and names itself the builder, with "Client: ARC" and "Location: Kismayo"; it describes "a community solar mini grid that was designed to provide power to resettled communities back from Dadaab Refugee camp". Microgrid Knowledge reported in April 2018 that "A second solar microgrid will be built by SolarGen in a new development for returning refugees in Kismayo."
Caveat
No source calls this Kismayo's first solar mini-grid. Microgrid Knowledge ranks it as SolarGen's second microgrid in Somalia (after Warsheikh), which is a different claim; the priority within Kismayo is the entry's own assertion and is unattested.

The year stands only in a two-cell metadata field ("Year:" / "2018"), not in a dated sentence, and it is not stated whether 2018 is the year of construction or of commissioning. The trade report from April 2018 had the project still unbuilt.

Caveat
"Utility-recovery programme" is the entry's paraphrase; the programme's own name is the Somali Electricity Sector Recovery Project, and re-establishing the electricity supply industry is one of two stated objectives alongside cheaper and cleaner supply.

For scale, Microgrid Knowledge describes SolarGen's comparable Warsheikh grid as a 48-kW system for 175 households. The ISR does not name the 6 MWp figure for Kismayo; it gives 26 MWp as the combined capacity of all three pending contracts.

The ISR of 4 November 2025 (Seq No: 8, ISR058161) still carries the Kismayo contract as unawarded: "The installation of Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems in Galkayo, Growe, Baidoa has commenced whereas the contractor selection for Berbera, Borama and Kismayo is advianced [sic]." The results tables repeat that "The procurement of EPC contractors for an additional 3 ESPs (BEC-Berbera, AEC-Borama, WESCO-Kismayo) with an estimated total capacity of 26MWp expected to be awarded by November 30, 2025", and record the corresponding installed-capacity indicators as 0.00 as of 15 Oct 2025.
Caveat
The report gives an expected award date of 30 November 2025, weeks after publication, so the contract may have been awarded since. "Most recent public report" describes the ISR series as it stood when the entry was verified, not necessarily today.
