Automatic number-plate recognition: the camera layer that turns a rule into an enforceable one. Nearly every congestion charge, low-emission zone and plate-rationing scheme in this atlas rests on it.
How this list is decided. Membership is not a field an editor set: it is every published entry whose own text names ANPR / ALPR, matched at build time, with the sentence printed under each row so you can judge the match yourself. 23 entries in 18 cities. Where it appears in the atlas

Recorded CCTV images are kept for up to 28 days and ANPR data for two years.
Since 1 January 2018 the entire Brussels-Capital Region — all 19 municipalities — has been a low-emission zone: 361 dedicated ANPR cameras read every passing plate and check it against the vehicle registry, with a €350 fine for banned Euro classes.
Since a 2018 rollout of 1,900+ NB-IoT parking sensors feeding a real-time occupancy map, Dubrovnik added a 2025 ANPR-based access-control zone around the Old Town to curb UNESCO-flagged overtourism congestion; a 572-space Park 'n' Ride at Pobrežje is under construction, targeted for completion around 2028.
