Success audit 2026-10-14: every source re-read and dated, claim array completed; outcome succeeded -> ongoing; corrections: teaser: 'largely stopped there' is contradicted by the entry's own sources: Front Marítim joined from 1997, and the city lists neighbourhoods in four districts; Envac counts nine stations.

Claims, one by one

The text below is copied verbatim from the published record. Each claim names the source dossiers that carry it; caveats stay attached to the claim they qualify.

Claim 1 clm-c29cc948b84d9ee4 quantitative
Since 1992
Published field
snippet · verbatim
Mapping
mapped · no interpretation or interpolation added by this file
What the mapping says
The Catalan waste authority states plainly: "The first pneumatic collection system installed in Catalonia was in Barcelona in 1992." Envac's project page dates the city's first network to the same year: "fue inaugurado durante los juegos Olímpicos de Barcelona en 1992" (it was inaugurated during the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games).
Caveat
Both sources give a start year only. Neither documents that the network has run without interruption since then, and the city's own service page names no start date at all.

Claim 2 clm-45093de71e7f4f4d descriptive

Mapping

What the mapping says
Envac's Barcelona project page presents the Vila Olímpica network as the city's first and as its own work: "fue inaugurado durante los juegos Olímpicos de Barcelona en 1992", serving initially 2,900 dwelling equivalents through 241 inlets and a single waste fraction.
Caveat
The attribution to Envac rests on the supplier's own project page. The city's service page describes the network without naming a supplier, and the regional authority records only that Barcelona was first in Catalonia in 1992.

  1. Envac — Barcelona Ciudad project page (operator/builder)
Claim 3 clm-6fa7259099a2f28a descriptive
several Barcelona districts — among them Vila Olímpica, Poblenou, Gràcia, Sant Andreu and parts of Ciutat Vella —
Published field
snippet · verbatim
Mapping
mapped · no interpretation or interpolation added by this file
What the mapping says
The city lists the neighbourhoods where pneumatic collection is in place under the heading "Ámbitos geográficos donde está implantado": "Ciutat Vella: Raval, Santa Caterina i La Ribera", "Gràcia: Gràcia Nova, Salut i Farró", "Sant Andreu: Bon Pastor, Sant Andreu de Palomar" and "Sant Martí: La Vila Olímpica, Diagonal Mar, el Besòs el Maresme, Provençals del Poblenou". Envac's project page adds Front Marítim, connected to the Vila Olímpica plant from 1997, and names seven further systems including "Santa Caterina", "Diagonal Poblenou Sur y Norte" and "La Sagrera".
Caveat
The two lists do not match. No source uses the name "22@": the nearest are Envac's "Diagonal Poblenou" and the city's "Provençals del Poblenou". Front Marítim and La Sagrera appear only on the supplier's page, not on the city's list, and the city additionally names neighbourhoods in Gràcia and Sant Andreu that this passage leaves out.

Claim 4 clm-cfcfe94a97877baa descriptive
collect household waste through underground pipes instead of trucks
Published field
snippet · verbatim
Mapping
mapped · no interpretation or interpolation added by this file
What the mapping says
The city describes the system as drop boxes "todos ellos conectados a un punto central de aspiración por una red de cañerías subterráneas" (all connected to a central suction point by a network of underground pipes), listed as one of the five methods of its household collection service. The regional authority names among the advantages: "With the static system there are no more refuse trucks on the streets."
Caveat
Trucks are moved rather than removed. The regional authority notes that at the central point "The refuse stored in containers is removed by trucks as often as necessary", and the city's own page describes two variants, one of which has a truck perform the suction itself from fixed points.

Claim 5 clm-40eefaee027fa1f2 descriptive
Residents drop bags at street inlets
Published field
snippet · verbatim
Mapping
mapped · no interpretation or interpolation added by this file
What the mapping says
The city states where the inlets sit: "Los buzones se encuentran en la calle, en las porterías o zonas comunitarias de los edificios o en los rellanos de cada piso" (in the street, in building entrances or communal areas, or on each floor's landing). The regional authority confirms that waste travels in bags: "Bags must be properly closed and be of sufficient quality to prevent them breaking during suction."
Caveat
Not every inlet is on the street. The city says they are also inside building entrances, communal areas and floor landings, and its inlet replacement programme explicitly excludes the ones inside buildings or on facades.

Claim 6 clm-9cd21289798cc949 descriptive
air suction carries waste to central collection points, where the transport air is filtered before it is released
Published field
snippet · verbatim
Mapping
mapped · no interpretation or interpolation added by this file
What the mapping says
The regional authority describes the mechanism: "First a depression is created in the pipe network and an air current enters that enables the refuse to be sucked along to a central point. The refuse is conveyed at speeds between 60 and 80 km/h." At the end of the line, "the refuse goes into containers and the compressed air is filtered before being released into the atmosphere." The city's page names the same destination, a "punto central de aspiración".
Caveat
The regional authority describes the static system; the city also runs a mobile variant in which a truck performs the suction from fixed points.

Claim 7 clm-4ea1341b19244aa9 quantitative
A 2023 upgrade fitted central inlets with real-time monitoring
Published field
snippet · verbatim
Mapping
mapped · no interpretation or interpolation added by this file
What the mapping says
The supplier's release of October 2023 says: "Envac Spain is upgrading 221 automated waste collection inlets for the Barcelona City Council in central areas, including Ciutat Vella, El Raval, and Santa Caterina", and that "The system will collect real-time data that helps operators and owners better understand the waste collection system." The city describes the same 221-inlet replacement under its Pla Endreça programme, budgeted at 2.3 million euros, and says the new inlets carry "un sensor que detecta el nivel de llenado" (a sensor that detects the fill level).
Caveat
Both sources describe work that had not finished: the supplier's release says the project "is scheduled to continue until December 2023", and Betevé reported in October 2023 that the city "renovarà fins a finals d'any" the 221 inlets. No listed source confirms that all 221 were fitted, and the programme covers Ciutat Vella only.

Claim 8 clm-2ab6241947fadbfc descriptive
it remains a district-scale system, not citywide
Published field
snippet · verbatim
Mapping
mapped · no interpretation or interpolation added by this file
What the mapping says
The city presents pneumatic collection as one of five household collection methods alongside street containers, door-to-door, mobile platforms and manual collection, and lists a bounded set of neighbourhoods in four of the ten districts under "Ámbitos geográficos donde está implantado". The supplier's release puts the reach at "nine stations in operation, including a major hospital", covering "approximately 50,000 homes and numerous shops, serving around 200,000 individuals".
Caveat
The coverage figures come from the supplier, not from the city; the city names the neighbourhoods served but publishes no figure for how many households or people the network reaches.
