Lanka Metro Transit Metro Bus — Live Tracking & QR Fares

Lanka Metro Transit (Pvt) Ltd, a government-owned company under the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, runs Colombo's new 'Metro Bus' service with a data layer built in from the start: the LMT-GO app offers real-time bus tracking, journey planning across stops and transfers, and QR-code fare payment from the phone. About 10 buses have run as a pilot from the Makumbura Multimodal Centre since the app shipped in late April 2026; a seven-route network across the Colombo Metropolitan Region with a 121-bus fleet is due to launch in September 2026, and the government has pledged to grow the fleet to 500 buses by 2029. The Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association calls the scheme Rs 7 billion wasted and says it replicates the failed state transport board model under a new name.
