Belgrade, Serbia's capital of roughly 1.4 million at the confluence of the Sava and Danube, has pursued its smart-city ambitions mainly through mobility. Since 2019 the City has been rolling out an adaptive traffic-control system built on Siemens Mobility's Sitraffic Scala platform — now delivered by the Siemens spin-off Yunex Traffic — which retimes signals from real-time traffic-density data and prioritises trams. By late 2022 more than 280 of the city's roughly 650 signalised junctions were connected, with early city analyses reporting double-digit travel-time savings on the busiest corridors.
